Our arrival and first day

Once we made it to Guangzhou we did Maggie's medical appt which, as always, I forgot to photograph any of it. I hate that but I know it is because I am so focused on what is happening and the results. Everything was fine until she got the TB test. They use the old fashioned transdermal needle so it is like a shot. She was just so upset. The guide told us not to take her into the pool until we return on Monday to get it read. I am not taking any chances. With my luck she'd have some kind of reaction to the pool or get some germs in there to infect the puncture site and we'd get a false positive. It is flat without any hardness to it at all so I know it is negative.

After that we went and checked in to the hotel. It was nice to finally arrive and this place is a knock out. I took some pictures at the check in desk just to try to depict that area. Once we settled in and we got room service. I have been having what felt like spells of light headedness, but now I am thinking it may have been some weird left over motion stuff from the buses and flying. I hadn't eaten since the day before so that was my first thought. So I made sure we did room service and got a good lunch. After lunch Maggie went down for her nap and our guide, Miko, came back to do our consulate paperwork. I forgot to bring the stinking vacination affidavit. I am not sure what envelop that was in but it wasn't in the one that got completed and brought with me that's for sure. So we will go to the consulate Monday to do one there as it has to be notarized by them if you do it here. We are an I-600 family so don't freak all you Hague families. LOL

While Miko was here she had a lady come and get our laundry, telling us she could get it done very inexpensive. Obviously this woman is a friend of something because it wasn't that much laundry and it was 196 yuan. That was $30. US dollars. I won't be using that lady again. It is much cheaper to get it done on Shamian Island. I guess my guide just didn't know... only looking at what a savings it was compared to the hotel prices. And compared to the hotel prices it was a great deal. But not compared to what I could get on the island.

After Miko left we got the taxi and went to Shamian Island to the White Swan and did some pictures inside and then went outside to the shops. Remember when the shops were full of pretty little girl dresses? Of course I am talking to those that have been here before. I just didn't see any. They had some baby stuff at the shop closest to the White Swan before you cross the street. But it was mostly the silk (or what they call silk) pajamas and dresses. I was looking for the cute ones. None... until I got down to Andy's and even there their selection was slim. I bought her one dress. But I did find the cutest sandals in her size with velcro sraps and flashy heels. I told her she could wear them tomorrow to the zoo. After that we walked by Jordon's. He wasn't there. Actually no one was. So we walked back out to head for Lucy's for dinner and we ran in to him. So funny because he recognized me but he didn't know me. He thought I was someone else. But I didn't let on too much as I know, after four trips here and spending much time talking with him every trip each day I am in Guangzhou, that he does know I am very familiar to him. When I see him tomorrow I will remind him. He usually calls me the celebrity because one day I was in his store and I was telling him my email address and a few people in the store recognized it and asked if I was Bobbie. This made him think I was someone famous. LOL Doesn't take much here. LOL

Anyway, I told him I would come back and see him in the next day or two. He is "Making Elijah and Maggie's name in Chinese for me." I put that in quotes as it is what he says to everyone. :o) He is a wonderful Christian man and if you are coming to Guangzhou... you have to go to Jordon's. His prices are set and no haggling. So no stress. He is very nice and his shop can be seen across the street from Lucy's. If you don't see it stand next to the fat lady and look the across the street. You can't miss his bright yellow sign.

We had Hamburger and French Fries for dinner and Maggie had her vegetables that she likes. We had to make a mid dinner trip to the bathroom and I took a picture of the funny rules they have posted inside. LOL

After dinner we bought some water and headed back to the hotel. I had tried while on Shamian Island to take some pictures. I will say the small park is still there and you can take the kids to play there. If you don't know where it is just ask on the group or email me privately and I will tell you.

It was good to see the Island. It was sad to see the condition it was in. There are only a handful of stores left. The area where, especially at night, the venders would all set up on the sidewalks and sell movies and watches and so forth is completely gone. You nothing until you get to 7-11. And the photo place is still there. But nothing else on that side. Even the main shopping road only has a few shop. I took pictures outside the youth health clinic for those that remember where that is across the street from the White Swan at the beginning part of the shopping street. You can barely see it for the scaffolding and stuff. Very sad...

And so it goes... :o)*
