What a great visit we had. You know it always causes a bit of anxiety not knowing just how they will react to being back there. I made sure Ding let her know that we were going to visit her friends and foster family. And the huge 300 count dum dum pops were exactly as successful as I thought they'd be. Maggie loved running around giving them to all the kids... even the babies. LOL
We arrived there about 9:30am and went first to the baby area. I took lots of pictures. We were told that most of the kids there were special needs. They were so precious, every one of them. From the baby area we went to the foster family. That was an awesome visit. Now let me tell ya, Elijah went down to breakfast and all the sudden has some strong stomach pain. I gave him a couple of pepto bismol tablets and some tylenol. I only wished I'd had a rice sock to help him as I know that is what works best on kids little tummys. So when we went to the orphange Elijah was saying on the way there that he would just stay in the van as his tummy was still hurting. But when we arrived he decided he really didn't want to miss it so said his tummy was a bit better. So we go in and he is hobbling around like an old man, hunched at the middle.
So we go to meet the foster family. Ding tells them about Elijah having a stomach ache. I ended up saying to Ding that I wish I was at home because I would just get our rice sock as that was very effective. I had to explain that you take a long sock, fill it with rice about 1/2 to 3/4 full, then tie the end and microwave it for 1 minute and then put that on the childs tummy. To my embarrassment Ding immeidiately turned and told the family and others there about this. He then turned back and said, "They can make this for you." I told him "no," that I didn't want to take a sock and food from them. I mean really. I felt bad that he didn't think anything of asking. Obivously a cultural thing. I understood them wanting to accomidate thier guest, but still felt very bad. They made one and then got into a talk with each other about how great this idea was. They were very thankful for the idea and I tried to leave the sock with them so they could use it but they very much wanted us to keep it. So we now have a Chinese man's sock and an orphanage's food all for the sake of one little boys stomach ache. :o) I just love the Chinese. :o)
After this we went to the school area where Maggie passed out the rest of her dum dum pops and left the left overs with her teacher for when they wanted more. I am so glad I bought that big old bag no matter how much room it took in our suitcase. :o)
After visiting the school it was time to leave. They gave me a Jade necklace for Maggie, a small chinese mask for us and the most precious of all... Maggies growth report with pictures from when she was younger. Ding is supposed to go over it with us and tell us the important things like when she sat up, stood, walked, said her first words, etc. What a wonderful experience this has all been and how thankful we are to God and the people of China for the wonderful care of our daughter.
